CAU ADMISSION FOR CHINESE GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP （TYPE B）
"SILK ROAD" PROGRAM

1. Application Deadline: May 20

2. Criteria and Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

(1) be a citizen of  “Belt and Road” countries, be in good health mentally and physically, abide by Chinese laws and regulations as well as campus rules and regulations, and respect Chinese customs.

(2) be a bachelor’s degree holder and under the age of 35 when applying for master’s degree programs;

(3) have relatively strong academic background in the field they intend to apply.

(4) having a high level of English proficiency，such as having a bachelor’s degree taught in English, or TOEFL (iBT) score of 90 points at least, or IELTS score at least 6.0，.

3. Application Materials:

The applicants should submit the following materials for their application:

(1) Scanned copy of passport (the date of expiration should be later than December； applicants without passports will not be accepted.);

(2) Visa information (only required for students in China);

(3) Notarized final degree certificate or pre-graduation certificate;

(4) Official undergraduate transcripts; If it is neither Chinese nor English, notarized Chinese or English version should be provided;

(5) Certification of English proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, certification of a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree taught in English， or other materials that can prove English language proficiency );

(6) Study/Work experience (updated to application date)

(7) Study plan in English or Chinese (no less than 1000 words);

(8) Two reference letters (in Chinese or English) from two professors or associate professors with signatures (reference letters have no fixed format but must have references’ signatures as well as their positions and titles.)

(9) Foreigner Physical Examination Form (photocopy); it can be downloaded from  http://www.csc.edu.cn/uploads/forms/foreinphy.pdf;

(10) No criminal report ( issued by the public security department);

(11) Published academic papers, patents obtained, or other research achievements （either photocopy or original）.

Note: All application materials should be in Chinese or in English. Materials in other languages should submit Chinese or English translations sealed by translation companies or certificate authorities.

4. Application Procedure

(1) Visit China Agricultural University application system: http://apply.cau.edu.cn/ to log in, fill in your personal information, choose the major and submit the materials required.The registration fee is RMB 400 yuan (not refundable);

(2) Complete the online application procedure at CGS Information Management System for International Students (Visit CSC application system: http://www.campuschina.org and click “Application Online” to log in), submit online the completed Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship. Submit the scanning copy of Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship with your signature to http://apply.cau.edu.cn; Choose “Tpye B” when you apply for scholarship online. BEIJING GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Categories of applicants and duration of scholarship

Students who wish to study and are studying in Beijing. 

a. Excellent international students who pursue degrees at Higher Education Institutions (hereinafter referred to as HEIs) in Beijing. The duration of the scholarship is no more than 4 academic years. 

b. Chinese language students and senior scholars. The duration of the scholarship is no more than 1 academic year.

c. General scholars. The duration of the scholarship is no more than 1 academic year. 

d. Exchange students and students with special contributions. The duration of the scholarship is no more than 1 academic year.

Criteria & eligibility

a. Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens and be in good health. 

b. Applicants for doctoral degree programs must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40. 

c. Applicants for master's degree programs must have a bachelor's degree and be under the age of 35.

d. Applicants for undergraduate program must have senior high school diploma with good academic performance and be under the age of 30. 

e. Applicants for general scholar program must have bachelor's degree or completed at least two years of undergraduate studies and be under the age of 50. 

f. Applicants for long term language studies must have senior high school diploma and be under the age of 60.

g. Applicants for senior scholar program must have master's degree or above or hold academic title of associate professor or above and be under the age of 50.

h. Applicants should meet the language requirements of the higher education institutions. 

i. Applicants should not be awardees of Chinese Government Scholarship at the same time.

Application

Applicants could apply to the Higher Education Institutions that are eligible to enroll scholarship students. 

Applications are accepted by the end of February. For the specific application deadlines, applicants should consult the relevant HEIs. For international students who are interested in BGS, please contact target universities directly.

Application documents

The applicants must fill in and submit the following documents truly, correctly and completely: 

a. Application Form for Beijing Government Scholarship (Applicants shall obtain the form from the Higher Education Institutions or download the form from the website of the targeted HEIs). 

b. Notarized highest diploma and transcripts. 

c. Foreigner Physical Examination Form should be provided if the duration of study is six months or above. 

d. Study plan (no less than 400 words) or research plan (no less than 800 words) in Chinese or English should be submitted for degree or research students. 

e. Applicants for music and art are requested to submit the applicants' own works according to the requirements of the target HEIs. 

f. Applicants under 18 should provide legal documents of their legal guardians in China. 

g. Please note that application documents will NOT be returned.

Other clauses

HEIs and specialties:

Applicants for BGS can choose institutions and majors from HEIs in Beijing. Please consult HEIs in Beijing for details. 

Selection, notification and review:

HEIs will assess all the applications and send the Scholarship Admission Notice, Admission Notice and Visa Application Form for Study in China (JW201) to the candidates three months before the study begins.

The applications will be regarded as invalid and will not be accepted if applicants fail to meet the eligibility or the application materials are incomplete.

The host institutions will make a yearly review on the scholarship students' performances. If the scholarship students violate the law of China or regulations of the host institutions, or the rules of BGS, the scholarship will be terminated.

Upon graduation, scholarship students will be reviewed in a comprehensive way, and the result will be submitted to the office of Beijing Government Scholarship Management Team.

Visa application and registration:

a. Visa application
Students under BGS should apply for visa to study in China at the Chinese embassy or consulate-general with the original documents and one set of photocopies of the Admission Notice, Visa Application for Study in China (JW201) and Foreigner Physical Examination Form and valid passport.

b. Registration 
Scholarship students must register with the institutions within the set time with original Admission Notice. If the scholarship is not sufficient to cover the tuition fee, the rest should be on the students' own expanse. 

Scholarship students who are unable to register on time must obtain permission from the institution. Those who fail to register without the prior consent from the institution will be considered as voluntarily giving up the scholarship and the scholarship will be automatically terminated. Cost generated by students' early arrivals should be covered by students themselves.
